Lately the world news is a bit overwhelming (elections, world news, social unrest)… I find myself feeling helpless and angry at what appears to be a generally a bad situation that is getting worse. My mind plays the lines from Jefferson Airplane’s song “Go Ask Alice” over and over in my head…
“When logic and proportion have fallen sloppy dead
And the white knight is talking backwards
And the red queen’s off with her head
Remember what the dormouse said
Feed your head, feed your head“
So today I decided to listen to what the dormouse said.. and started a plan to feed my head..
Over the years I have always loved motivational seminars and self-development programs. They varied widely from Myers-Briggs (personality type assessment), Neuro Linguistic Programing (NLP / reading body language) to Left Brain / Right Brain (whole brain thinking) Etc…and each offered a piece to what makes many of tick. I find information and tools that help make sense our human side very valuable when making positive changes.
What you feed into your mind changes the way your thoughts are formed. Change your thoughts, change your life ….. sounds simple right? Such a simple concept…. controlling what you feed your head results in thoughts that can change the way you feel about life.
I guess it starts with the belief that we all have the ability to choose how we response to every situation. The biggest obstacle is accepting personal responsibility for our lives and not blaming others, money, time, or circumstance as the barrier to positive changes.
So here is my quick start guide to emotional health
- Swap negative for positive based input/entertainment (TV, Radio, Reading)
- Reframe my thoughts to improve my output (words and actions).
- Plan my actions to create good habits
- Maintain my habits to drive desired behavior… smiles
I know I can’t turn the world around but I believe I can turn myself around…Today I am taking responsibility for doing that…wish me luck…or better join me!
