I bet most people have heard of the movie Scent of A Woman staring Al Pacino… but have you heard that there is also a Scent of a Man? It’s true (although it’s not a movie) men produce human sex pheromones in their armpit sweat and hair which is called androstadienone (AN-dro-STAY-dee-eh-noan). Scientists have shown that when women smell this compound, their hearts beat faster and their mood improves.
Do you think I should be putting my wife in a headlock on date nights to enhance the romance?
Although, I would bet a million dollars, if you ask any woman if she prefers a man’s BO to a nice smelling cologne she’d say give me a man who showers daily, knows how to swipe on deodorant, and apply a nice smelling fragrance in moderation. Note: Guy’s in this case for everyone’s sake please remember “More is not better, splash does not mean tsunami “.
Thinking back to the 60’s when I was 1st introduced to the Liquid of Love.. I experimented with Brut, English Leather, HAI Karate, Aramis, Canoe, Old Spice and my chic magnet special Pinaud (aka the stuff Frank the Barber slaps on your freshly shaved neck) which stung like all get out… Once I got through the more is better phase and I learned to use cologne in moderation, I have to say it made me feel cool. The more exotic the scent the more worldly I felt. I’m not sure how the ladies felt about it but I felt suave and sophisticated.
On a woman… I am a sucker for anything that smells fresh, crisp and completely clean my wife wore Obsession by Calvin Cline which still brings back fond memories…
I think the rules have changed (along with a lot of other things) for wearing fragrances now. Especially in the workplace. If not handled correctly, having a strong scent applied or personally produced could result in the standard managerial email. This is a note requesting wearers of “strange” and “exotic” scents to cease and desist so that we may be more sensitive to the olfactory sensitivity needs of our colleagues ..Thank you Management.
So if wearing cologne is out then what’s a guy supposed to do???? What could a guy smell like (besides bacon) that might tune up his romantic connection? Well men love food and drinking right? And in fact, cinnamon, has long been thought to generate sexual arousal in both men and women so how about sharing some French Toast? Hey we might be on to something…. how about the clean and invigorating scent of citrus, such as lemon, lime, orange, lemongrass, and red grapefruit which gives men that fresh-out-of-the-shower scent, a smell that studies say many women find appealing. So how about some fruity Sangria or a few Mimosa’s with our French Toast… Wow… now that’s something I think both men and woman can get behind… breakfast in bed.. I think that will pass the sniff test!
