Mad Hatter’s Day 10/6

Have you ever wondered about the meaning of the card in the Mad Hatter’s hat? The 10/6 refers to the cost of a hat — 10 shillings and 6 pence, and later became the date and month to celebrate Mad Hatter Day.

So what is Mad Hatter’s day anyway? Simply stated ….It’s a day to act silly. In a time of increasing partisanship and rigidity, the Mad Hatter invites all of us to wear what we like, do what we like, and share some tea and scones with anyone we like.

I’d say 10/6 which is tomorrow couldn’t have come any sooner than tomorrow… With all that is happening in our country and the world for that matter, I’d say we need a little silly…..

If you have forgotten how… here are a few suggestions:

Walk backwards…. wear a silly hat…. tell Dad jokes (my favorite), blow milk out of your nose or use a straw to blow bubbles in your coffee. Get creative… celebrate with a day-long fest of silliness made especially for times like these…and let’s make Lewis Carroll proud.

You may not know this but the Mad Hatter loved Alice:
In the original script he kissed her twice: At the end of his dance, he grabs and kisses her passionately. Before she leaves, He abruptly kisses her one last time and whispers “Fairfarren, Alice.”.

“Fairfarren” is a phrase muttered by the Mad Hatter to Alice when it’s time for her to go back to the real world. It is a Scottish phrase meaning “good journeying”.

Fairfarren my silly friends……………………
